When Darkness Descends
Deep within the dark chambers of mind
I draw out old memories
Concealed for what seemed an eternity.
A face, a name, long forgotten
Clouded by the mists of time.
A touch deprived, the warmth ceased
Like a candle extinguished
Leaving the soft molten wax.
Agitatedly I squirm, clutching the pillow;
A dream distraught, a sleep denied.
The night is long, late is the dawn to come.
That voice I heard, a slow murmur;
I know that voice, a sound like nectar
Dropping upon my ears;
A voice long heard no more.
Where had it vanished?
I run in an empty dungeon maze
Chasing an echo, unlocking doors.
The rooms lie vacant. I clutch a veil,
Something from my finger slips;
A gust of air, a smell so near
Memories flood, memories fade
I see no more of that sweet fond face.
In the dark dungeon, I lie there
Dozing off to an eternal sleep.
The visions blur, the light ebbs.
It is black. It is dark. It is all I see.
Maybe, I’ll wake up in my dream
To greener fields and a brighter sky;
A warm hand to clasp mine
And a brimming face, long forgotten
Like the bright red sun, glowing…
I draw out old memories
Concealed for what seemed an eternity.
A face, a name, long forgotten
Clouded by the mists of time.
A touch deprived, the warmth ceased
Like a candle extinguished
Leaving the soft molten wax.
